My decision

With much studying and reading I have decided to have this baby naturally using the Bradley method. I have been devouring books on this method and natural childbirth and the benefits that come from this. This will be my first go at this. All my other babies were born using an epidural. I got to tell you that I am nervous but really believe that if I practice and use the principles that are taught I can do it. Now, I just need to coach Jonathan on his responsibilities and hope he can do it also. With an epidural he just had to sit back and wait until they said it was time. Heck, thats all I had to do too.
This will sure be more work for the both of us. I can do this! That is what I must keep telling myself... Positive thinking, right?

it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better that way! from my experience I would do it natural any day compared to the other way! It's different for everyone but I hope all goes well for you! Good luck

Man I wish all I had to do was sit and wait when I had my epidural, I could definitely feel my contractions and I pushed till I was exhausted. I'm sure you will do great doing it naturally!

It is such a big decision! Im glad to hear that you are reading everything you can get your hands on! I am too! What books have you read? If there were any that you particularly liked, I would love to read them too.

YEAH! I know you'll do just great! If you have the desire, and are prepared then you'll rock! I had Savannah all natural and I loved it SOOO much! I don't have any thing to compare it to though. Well if Jonathan is reading too have him read the Birth Partner, by Penny Simpkin! It's my all time favorite!

You can totally do it! Even though I haven't had kids yet I've seen documentaries and read about the benefits of natural childbirth and they rock! Good luck! Keep up with that positive thinking!

Good luck! Kristoffer was the only one I had natural and you don't want to know about that experience. My broken tail bone hurts just thinking about it. I think if I had been mentally prepared I could have handled it better. So hopefully you will do great!!

What a big decision! I hope you have an amazing experience! I prefer Bradley Method over epidural any day.

I think either way it is done that women are heroes for giving birth. Diana did 5 natural and one with an ep and she says there are advantages to both. Just remember that you are a good person and a good mom regardless of the method you choose. For a good laugh, go to youtube and watch the Bill Cosby version of childbirth - I found that even though it is exaggerated and funny it still was an accurate description of our first childbirth. See you soon.

You'll do fabulous! After all, that's what our bodies are made to do right? That's great that you're practicing and reading and things nice and early. You can do it!

I did my last one totally natural and LOVED it. There is nothing like the adrenaline rush you get from it. I finally took some Motrin about 3 hours after I had her, but that was it, and I felt better than ever after it was done. I tried two epidurals, the first with Declan was OK, the second with Decota sucked and caused problems with out much pain relief (plus I had to have cyst removed from on top of my spine last spring we think as a result from my bad epidural), Cambria's labor and especially recovery- the best ever. I would never do it any different ever again! With that said- everyone is different, and Meds are there to help, so no matter what you do- you will rock!

You will LOVE it! My last one was all natural and I felt so good afterwards. The nurses all admit that it is also easier on them when it is natural! It HURTS, but the joy you feel is AMAZING :D

My husband and I took the classes on the Bradley method before we had my first daughter, but things didn't go as planned at all. I was way overdue and had to be induced. Pitocin contractions are ten times harder than natural ones. Then with my second daughter I just chickened out. I know that having them naturally is better and hope to do it next time. The most important thing is to have a coach who knows how to talk you through everything. I hope it works out for you! good luck

Melaine, I am glad you are making a decision and learning all you can about it. I think you will be fine! Transition can be a hard, but it feels so good to push. Having a baby is a huge accomplishment no matter how it plays out. I am proud of you whatever you choose to do. Let me know if I can help. Kim says I am a great coach...maybe I should be having this conversation with Jonathan :)

It seems a little early for me to be *sharing* since this is my first time on your blog...but what the heck...

I had three of my four naturally. I'm still scared every time I do it, but I still go natural anyway. I think it's worth it.

I always did MUCH better walking and staying upright as long as possible. I spent all of my last labor walking aimlessly at Walmart because they didn't allow moms out of the room at the hospital to walk around! (The hospital was practically next door!)

The caregivers are key. If you have an obnoxious or cold nurse or one that might yell or go hyper (like I had once) you might consider firing her on the spot...or make sure Jon does, rather.

Nice to get in touch with you again!

You don't know me (I know the Basdens), but two months ago I had my second. I can't get epidurals at my hospital. I thought I would have to have one, but my labors are too fast for much of anything!!
So I think you will be great either way, and think it is great that you are using a method to focus yourself. I would say that is what is required. And some focusing does come naturally also, so don't worry you'll forget everything because it's not like that. BEST WISHES! :D
